Robertson Technology Pty Ltd
RTPL markets its' products and services internationally from a base in Western Australia, with a focus on energy efficiency and associated environmental benefits. It has developed innovative technology for accurate temperature and differential temperature measurement, which is being incorporated into a range of applications, the first of which is pump, turbine and blower performance monitoring. There is a worldwide requirement for the accurate monitoring of pump efficiency and flow rate, to keep pumps in optimum condition, and thereby reduce energy and maintenance costs, improve plant reliability, and alleviate greenhouse gas emissions. Pumps use nearly 20% of the world’s electrical energy, and are possibly responsible for as much as 7% of greenhouse gas emissions. Most of the installed pumping capacity is fairly old and not particularly energy efficient. The P22 Pump Monitor uses the thermodynamic technique to accurately measure pump efficiency and flow rate. Turbines and blowers can also be monitored. Published estimates of potential energy savings in pumping systems range from 15 – 70%. However, this would often involve significant capital expenditure in system re-design. For factors that can be directly addressed by the Pump Monitor, we are projecting a technical potential of up to 15% savings. Both portable units and fixed installations are available. The instrumentation uses RTPL's CoolTip™ temperature probes, pressure probes, and power metering. It is simple to install and operate, accurate, and readily maintained. Portable units are used for investigative work and regular monitoring. They are purchased by organizations with large numbers of pumping systems, e.g. water utilities, power stations, mines, heavy industry, or by pump-related industries who wish to offer pump testing services. Fixed installations provide on-line predictive monitoring of critical and high power pumps, giving early warning of pumping problems and reduced risk of plant failure. They can be interfaced with pump scheduling and pump station optimisation software, which selects pump combinations to achieve the pumping requirement with lowest electricity costs, Fixed units were not a viable option prior to the development of RTPL's CoolTip technology, as they require very stable differential temperature measurement over long time periods. The main industries using larger pumps are: Water and Wastewater, Irrigation, Mining, Petrochemical, and Power Generation. In addition to instrumentation, pump test and refurbishment services are offered.
